Meet Joe
Born and raised in Western Washington, Joe Lonergan’s family moved to Pierce County when he was six years old. Growing up in Tacoma, serving others has been a part of Joe’s life from an early age – a passion that continues to this day.
Joe graduated from Eastern Washington University with his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with majors in Management and Marketing. During his senior year, Joe worked for the Washington State Legislature as a Senate Intern. While serving as a Community Advisor for residential life, Joe met his wife, Beth. Beth has dedicated her life to service as a mother and a teacher. Today Joe and Beth live in their Tacoma home where they are raising their two sons and will celebrate 23 years of marriage this year.
Joe’s life of public sector service continued with the South End Neighborhood Council where he served for six years before being elected to represent District 5 on the Tacoma City Council in 2009. During his eight years on the Council, Joe also served on county-wide boards and councils. On the Pierce County Regional Council for eight years, including two as chair, Joe worked closely with the representatives of County government and the cities and towns throughout Pierce County on land use and transportation issues. As a founding member of the South Sound 911 Policy Board, Joe served as vice-chair and chair while the agency did the hard work of consolidating public safety communications into a unified entity. As chair, Joe fought to reduce costs to fire and police agencies throughout Pierce County.
After leaving the council, Joe continued to serve the community with work on the 2020 Census and as a Community Care Specialist responding to the COVID crisis. Joe began work as the People Technology Director for his church in 2021.
Joe is excited to bring his years of servant leadership in the private and public sectors to the Assessor-Treasurer’s office. With your help we can continue to improve the office and keep property taxes fair.
